What type of spine Surgery can Eminent offer?

Table of Contents

Spinal disorders don’t just affect your back. Your neural pathways all connect to your spine and your brain, allowing sensation and movement. However, when the discs between your vertebrae are bulging or collapsing, the nerves can be compressed or inflamed, which leads to pain and numbness all over your body.

The Eminent Medical Center has opened a new facility in Richardson TX that offers several different types of spine surgery to help correct these issues so you can recover your previous quality of life. Listed below are the services that they offer.

It should be noted that the cervical spine affects your neck, arms, and hands, and the lumbar spine affects your lower back and legs.

Injections:
Eminent Medical offers both cervical and lumbar injections to patients suffering from chronic or severe pain and numbness in the surrounding limbs. This occurs when the spinal nerves are being compressed or completely pinched off by bulging spinal discs or too little space between the vertebrae.
There are two varieties of injections: steroidal and anesthetic. Steroidal injections are aimed into inflamed areas of the spine to decrease swelling, and anesthetic injections block pain signals in the spine to alleviate pain and numbness.
Your condition and symptoms will determine which injections are best for you and if they will target your joints or your nerves.

Injections are often recommended along with medicines and/or physical therapy, but if other remedies are not effective, you may be applicable for a spine surgery.

Lumbar Microdisectomy:
Lumbar microdisectomy is a procedure where a portion of a herniated disc is removed, relieving compression on nerves. The majority of the disc is left to allow cushioning in the vertebrae.

Lumbar Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS):
There are two types of MIS offered: Microdecompression and Transforamial Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF)
Microdecompression removes overgrown soft tissue and/or bone growths (from arthritis or spinal stenosis) from the surrounding nerves to alleviate pressure and irritation.
TLIF replaces a damaged disc with a surgical cage containing donor bone tissue. The cage allows space between the vertebrae while the bone tissue fuses the spinal bones together into a stable unit.

Fusions:
In more extreme cases of spinal damage, you may be a candidate for cervical or lumbar fusion. Much like TLIF, the damaged discs are removed and replaced with surgical cages containing donor bone, which works to fuse the vertebrae together. The treated areas are then covered with metal plates to support and protect the spine while it heals.

Revisions:
Cervical and lumbar revisions are procedures meant to correct issues left behind or stemming from previous surgeries. Not all patients are eligible for revisional surgeries, as lingering issues can be based on a variety of factors, but if you are a candidate, Eminent Medical may recommend microdecompressions or fusions to help correct failed procedures.
